The Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council has two full-time staff and one part-time staff and is governed by a Board of Directors. Learn more about our team below!

Elisa Brewer-Singh, the Executive Director, leverages her passion for suicide prevention and a Master’s degree in Spiritual Care and Counselling to foster dialogue, advocate for improved access to services, and support individuals and families bereaved by suicide.
With a Regional, Provincial, and National focus, she aims to provide hope, help, and healing, and envisions engaged communities committed to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.

Karyn, Program Coordinator, is passionate about suicide prevention, inclusive community-building, and trauma-informed, safe storytelling for those with lived experiences of suicide. As a teen, she volunteered with mental health organizations throughout Kitchener-Waterloo, sharing information and using her experiences to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote hope.
Karyn holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration and enjoys incorporating research and data in the Council’s resources and programs.

Jenny, Program Coordinator, is deeply committed to community mental health, social justice, and building inclusive communities. With a background in both professional and volunteer roles across mental health organizations in the Waterloo Region, she also brings hands-on experience supporting young adults in the Guelph community.
Jenny holds a Honors Bachelor of Arts in Social Psychology with a minor in Social Justice and Inclusive Communities. She is passionate about community education, challenging stigma, and advocating for systemic change. Her work in mental health education and intervention is informed by a diverse cultural perspective, and she strives to create safe, more compassionate spaces for all.

Marta Fukasawa, Development Assistant, uses her experience in communications, event planning, and fundraising to support the Council’s charitable donations and fund development.
Since coming to Canada over 13 years ago, Marta has volunteered and worked in community groups and local organizations like The Early Years and Starling (formerly Lutherwood). She is very grateful for her life in Kitchener-Waterloo and has a strong desire give back and help her supportive and welcoming community.
