April is National Counselling and Psychotherapy month! We know that there can be a lot of questions about counselling and psychotherapy. This month, we’ve collected some resources to help you understand and access counselling or psychotherapy services.
Develop and led by Family Service Ontario, the Ontario Counselling Finder is an online tool that helps users find affordable counselling from over 40 non-profit providers across Ontario.
What to Know About Psychotherapy
The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario is the regulatory agency for psychotherapists in Ontario. In addition to regulating the psychotherapy profession, CRPO also provides a lot of information on their website about psychotherapy, including what to expect from a Registered Psychotherapist.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) also provides detailed information about psychotherapy, and provides explanations for the different types and format of therapy and the type of therapists.
Affordable Therapy Network – Low Cost Therapist Directory
The Affordable Therapy Network is an online directory of therapists offering low cost and sliding scale counselling across Canada. There is a variety of options, including virtual and in-person therapists. Please note, that different provinces regulate the act of counselling or therapy differently, and it may be helpful to ensure that a potential therapist is licensed to practice in your province.
