Update: Viewing Suicide Prevention through an Anti-Racism Lens

In June of 2020, the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council committed to growth by continuously pursuing opportunities to view suicide prevention efforts from a lens of anti-racism. As part of this pursuit, we as an organization are mindful that the My Life Matters messaging on our t-shirts may have a negative impact for some individuals within the larger community within the cultural context of the Black Lives Matter movement. After engaging in further conversations and consultations, the Council will no longer be selling or wearing the t-shirts, or promoting the My Life Matters messaging. We thank you for your understanding as we continue to honour the voices of those with lived experience and find our path forward.
